Dear Readers,
Two of the lovely ladies whom I think of lots, every day, are my wife, Jenny, and my mum, Dr. Eileen Motwani (4.1.1935-18.3.2016). I haven’t known very many other people named Eileen, but one of my friends from way back in school days in Scotland is Eileen Jarrett (whose maiden name was Eileen Keith), and she is a friend on Facebook. I couldn’t help noticing that Eileen’s birthday is tomorrow, 14 February, and so I decided rather spontaneously to post just a very quick, wee, mathematical surprise here, with some fun twists to it!
Some years ago, my mum found it interesting when I told her that, if A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on, then P+A+U+L=50, and E+I+L+E+E+N=50, too! To not get mixed up with who’s who in my fun little puzzle, let’s count I, PAUL as I+P+A+U+L=59, and EILEEN KEITH (my aforementioned friend from school days in Dundee) as E+I+L+E+E+N+K+E+I+T+H=103. We’ll also use my favourite number, 3, twice in the forthcoming product, as we’re now in the 2nd month of the year, and right now on 13 Feb. we mustn’t forget to include 13, the total number of letters in HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
OK, folks, we’re all set! You may like to have a calculator handy now, as the sneaky product to work out is: 2 x 3 x 3 x 13 x 59 x 103 !!
The final result, 1422018, is to wish you all a very happy Valentines’ Day tomorrow and also, of course, a brilliant birthday for Eileen on 14.2.2018 !
With lots of love to you all,
Paul xxx
